The horror, the horror!

For the past 45 minutes or so, I've been afraid that my tv was broken. I was watching Survivor like normal and then I changed the channel and something ... happened. A big black box appeared in the center of the screen, leaving only a 1 inch perimeter around the edge where I could see the picture. I went back to OLN and it was okay again. Then I tried other channels and almost all of them had this awful black box. I tried the VCR and DVD player and they both had the box too. AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGH!

Panic ensued! I was especially perplexed that it wasn't affecting every channel. I got out the manual and it didn't help me. I got out the warranty info, thinking that I would have to call for help. (Help! Help!) But then some really weird captions popped up on the screen and jitterbugged around. When I checked the captioning function, it was set to some strange text option. When I moved it back to one of the regular options (there are 8 to choose from!), my sweet, blessed picture returned.

Sigh. Close call.
